Hackberry Snoutshade

Real-World InspirationThe American Snout is immediately notable for its very long forward-projecting labial palps, which create the “snout.” The forewing tip is squared, and the upper wing is brown with orange areas near the base and inner margin plus white spots in the outer half. The hindwing underside is mottled gray to violet-gray and helps a perched butterfly resemble a dead leaf, especially when the palps and antennae are angled downward like a leaf petiole. UF/IFAS, BAMONA, and NatureServe all recognize Libytheana carinenta in Nymphalidae. The distinctive palps are useful, but wing pattern and range should still be checked.

Anchor

Biological anchor: American Snout (Libytheana carinenta). This identity comes from the supplied SpecimenOS context. The creature's visual proportions should remain recognizable to that real taxon; its named powers, signal effects and Myco-Verse behavior are fictional MycoVault lore.

Vault Behavior

In Hackberry Threshold, Hackberry Snoutshade is known for Longsnout Silhouette, Hackberry Memory, and Deadleaf Profile. Its three recorded abilities are Twigline Disguise, Snoutshade Fold, and Migration Pulse. Cryptic at rest and surprisingly mobile when conditions shift, favoring edges and tree lines.
